We need a new song

I watched the marches and the singing of the songs...We shall overcome? We need a new song.

We have the right to vote........we don't....If I hear one more person stating that registering to vote won't make a difference, or the Census bureau is just a way for the government to track us (uh yea so)

My favorite is people have joked for years about us not getting an African American president and then when we do, our people don't or won't support him, the long term benefits of the plans and policies that he is putting into place. People are mad because President Obama didn't come to their door to give them a $40, 000 a year job but instead made a means for you to go to school or job training to get YOURSELF there. He's not giving you a fish he's teaching you to fish, so you can teach others or they will see you learning to fish and feeding your family (being productive and proactive) and want to be like you (like the sagging pants but this makes waaaay more sense)

We have access to medical clinics....we don't go to the doctors....Contrary to popular belief nutrition and health play an important role in how you feel about yourself, how you are viewed, and what you can accomplish. Example...If you are always eating fried food or fast food, it's not brain food. If you are overweight and your family is dying off as a result of poor health you're constantly grieving a loss. If your brain is not working properly, you’re constantly grieving a death, you have no energy so your work habits are not great. You're looking for a way to uplift your mood so you smoke marijuana/weed now you need this fix because when you come down you are still having all those other problems. Now you lose your job, people are looking down on you because you are selling your link or constantly needing "help" with something.

or

You go to the doctor and get your health under control. You cook a balanced meal at least 3-4 days out of 7. You get family on board with this plan and even a workout plan. You are healthy and constantly feel the desire to be creative or you're in school and actually understand what is going on and thus the thirst for knowledge is real. You pursue a career that is of interest (when you have education you have options)and the energy to go to a job daily. You feel good about yourself. You're high off life. Others see you and hopefully want to emulate what they see in you.

We have schools in our community...We deface the buildings and devalue OUR teachers

Would you eat at someone's home if it's filthy? If you saw things crawling around, people yelling at each other, cursing, fighting, would you want to stay? If they had graffiti all on the building, trash all in front? Well unfortunately because we don't teach our children not to trash our neighborhoods, to talk out their problems, have pride in themselves and their surroundings. This becomes their daily reality and thus when they go to schools that look a certain way; there is a feeling of hopelessness. As a teacher you go into these situations and TRY to teach. When Jonny can't learn because mommy sold the link, he's hungry and saw a shooting yesterday of someone they just walked pass, mommy can't help with my 6th grade homework because she only has a 4th grade education and daddy's gone. Now I walk into a building that looks like no one care because pooky just dropped his flaming hots potato chip bag on the ground amongst the rest and this woman wants me to read? Think? Concentrate?

Have some pride! Can we stop posting videos of crack heads, glorifying murderers and gangs, young people fighting, adults whooping their kids (you just humiliated your child for what to show you're a good parent? Who are you trying to prove it to because now DCFS is on your case and now your child knows you can go to jail if you do it again........ loss of power) Adding fuel to racial tensions that already exist between the community and the police. What is to gain by showing more videos of our people committing crimes or of the police mistreating African Americans? So every male who sees the police already have their defenses up and some looking for a fight. Post videos of African Americans doing things we can be proud of. Winning awards, volunteering, starting programs etc. Being productive and building up our community.

We have to take responsibility for some things that happen in our communities and take action stop looking for captain Save me!

We have overcome, moved in the big house and put a sofa on the lawn. We need a song that says, We must work together, better ourselves, show each other love and better our lives by bettering ourselves..

We need a new song.....
