The power of forgiveness

There are people who hold on to things that have occurred in their life and it hinders them from moving forward.  One day I was talking to a friend who told me that she wasn't doing certain things in her life because some time ago she did and was criticized so now she refrains from it.  What was it, going to dinner by herself. While at dinner she saw a distant family member who reminded her that although she was divorced she should not give up hope finding a mate.  When I asked her why this bothered her, she stated because the relative was with her husband and she made her feel small.  I asked were you enjoying your meal before she arrived? She stated yes but afterward she just got a to go bag and left. When I asked how long ago this occurred she stated three years ago.  My question to her...why does it matter today? What does that person (who criticized her or at least that how she took it) add to your existence? How does that matter today?  The conversation came about because she was talking to someone from an online dating service and fearful of meeting up because, what if he didn't show up?
So not to make her look stupid but to help her see how irrational her thinking was I summarized it all...
So you let someone who you don't hang out with regularly, who does NOTHING for you make a statement 3 years ago that still affects your behaviors today and possibly hinders you from a meeting with someone who can possibly be the love of your life?

Learn to realize what's important in life and all else LET IT GO...if you trace some of your biggest insecurities back to their origin, it came from a person or situation that is no longer relevant in your here and now.
Stop hindering yourself dismiss that situation, forgive that person and move forward.  If you have to cut people out of your life in order for it to happen .....SO WHAT!
What's the difference between an eagle and a donkey? One soars and sees the world while the other stays on the ground carrying STUFF.
How often is a donkey spoken of in a positive analogy....
An eagle can soars because it carries NOTHING, it occasionally stops for what it needs and keeps it moving........
